D6 Slow Down Or Burn Out

Day 6

We Were Never Meant to Live This Fast

Matthew 11:28-29 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

The human soul was never designed to sprint through life at full speed. We were created to walk with God, not to race, rush, and run ourselves ragged. Even the ‘race of faith’ in the Bible is more marathon than all out sprint. But in a world that worships hurry, we wear busyness like a badge of honor. Productivity becomes identity. Rest feels like a luxury. Slowing down seems like failure.

And yet, Jesus never rushed. He never sprinted from one task to another. He moved with purpose, peace, and patience. He had a mission to accomplish, but He was never in a hurry. He walked everywhere. He paused for interruptions. He took time to be alone with the Father.

We, on the other hand, treat rest like a reward we have to earn. We collapse at the finish line instead of abiding in the rest of Christ. But what if speed is suffocating our souls? What if our relentless pace is drowning out God’s voice?

The Slow, Sacred Pace of Jesus
Look at how Jesus lived:
• He walked instead of ran. (Even when Lazarus was dying, He took His time—John 11:6.)
• He withdrew to lonely places. (Mark 1:35)
• He embraced interruptions. (The woman with the issue of blood—Luke 8:43-48.)
• He slept during storms. (Mark 4:38)

Jesus invites us to do the same. Come to Me, He says—not to strive, not to perform, not to hustle—but to rest.

What This Means for Us
• Hurry hinders holiness. We miss God in the rush.
• Peace isn’t found in speed but in surrender. The world pushes us to do more. Jesus calls us to be more.
• Rest isn’t weakness. It’s worship.

Reflection:
1. What is one area of your life where hurry is stealing your joy?
2. How would your faith change if you slowed down enough to truly listen to God?
3. What would it look like to live at Jesus’ pace?

Do Something:
Take one deliberate pause today. Stop between tasks. Take a slow breath. Remind yourself: “Jesus never rushed, and I don’t have to either.”
